Biography

Leigh Wilson was born William Edward Cockram in Bristol, England. He was the son of a music-seller and later took on the professional name Leigh Wilson, although many concert reviews identified him as W. E. Cockram. He was a tenor vocalist of great promise, appearing as soloist in many concerts during the 1860s. He died at age 34, reportedly from “brain-fever.” His known compositional output is small; a few songs and part-songs.
