Seco’l camin scorrendo in gioco e’n riso,
Che mi parea gioir in Paradiso.

O sera aventurata, o lume santo,
Cagion di farmi riveder colei
Che sola può sanar i dolor miei.

In the evening of the day before yesterday, by the light of the moon,
I saw, in pleasant and amiable company,
my lady walking full of joy.

And with gracious talk I joined her,
with her treading the path with joy and laughter,
which appeared to me to be feasting in paradise.

O happy evening, o sainted light,
reason to make me see her again,
that alone can heal my wounds.
