Biography Johann Baptist Waṅhal (the Czech Jan Křtitel Vaňhal is used in much of the post-1945 literature) settled in Vienna around 1760 and produced a seemingly uncountable number of symphonies and chamber works. His vocal works include 41 songs, 48 masses and many smaller church works; two lost operas date from a trip to Italy 1769-71.
