Born: 30 November 1753 (the erroneous 1761 comes from Schenk himself)
Died: 29 December 1836
Biography
Schenk moved to Vienna in 1773 to study with Wagenseil and wrote music for St. Stephen's Cathedral as well as the many theatres. During 1773 he took over correcting the exercises of Haydn's pupil Beethoven, and his autobiography relates "that Mozart responded to his admiration for the overture of Die Zauberflöte at its première by stroking his cheek and smiling, while continuing to conduct with the other hand."
