Biography

Jean de Brébeuf be­came a Je­su­it in 1617, and in 1625 found­ed a mis­sion at Ihon­a­tir­ia on Georg­ian Bay, Lake Hu­ron, in On­ta­rio, Ca­na­da. De­spite fierce op­po­si­tion from some aboriginals, he con­tin­ued to preach, and made a num­ber of aboriginal con­verts. Martyred in what is now Ontario in 1649.
