Edition notes: Three-part men's a cappella arrangement. Range is from a low B to the D above middle C. This is identical to the women's arrangement, just down the octave, so if you wished, for an SATB group, you could divide into three sections with men and women in octaves. (Sop/Ten, Sop/Ten, and Bass/Alto)

I knew the jack who felled the tree.
I knew the man who milled the wood.
I knew the wright who built the boat,
and the boat man, he was me.

Come raise a glass to men like these.
(I was the man who worked the boat.)
Their day is done, they work no more.
(I used to sail out from the shore.)
Long may you weep for men like these,
(Gone are the men who know the tide,)
but I was a boat man, and I weep for the sea.
