General Information

Title: Gaude Dei genitrix
Composer: Anonymous

Number of voices: 4vv   Voicing: AATT

Genre: SacredAntiphon

Language: Latin
Instruments: unknown

First published:

Description: Transcribed from the Trent manuscript tr92. The notes' values, accidentals and colourings are as in the manuscript, the coloured notes are “hemiolæ”. The time signature is missing: the “tempus perfectum” has been assumed from the context, the perfect notes and rests have been dotted and ties have been used for the notes' values that cannot be exactly represented. The text underlay within brackets is editorial. The complete absence of the text in the Tenor and Contra may suggest an intrumental performance of these two voices. The notes within square brackets are the editorial integration of the missing mesures. The notes' values within the "ligaturæ" are as follows: the left upstemmed notes are semibreves - the unstemmed notes are breves – the right downstemmed notes are longæ – the unstemmed notes with the double length body are maximæ. The “musica ficta” suggestions are in the MIDI and MusicXML files.

Gaude dei genitrix virgo immaculata
Gaude quæ ab angelo gaudium suscepisti
Gaude quæ genuisti eterni luminis claritatem
Gaude mater, gaude sancta dei genitrix virgo
Tu sola mater innupta te laudat omnis factura
Genitrix lucis sis pro nobis quæsumus perpetua interventrix
