Description: A setting of Dido's lament which appeared in the manuscript Royal 8.g.vii, copied by Petrus Alamire and presented to King Henry VIII and his wife, Catherine of Aragon. The manuscript also contains settings of the lament which have been identified as being by Josquin, Mouton, Ghiselin and Agricola, but the composer of this one (probably likewise Franco-Flemish) remains unidentified. It is none the less deserving for that! The lower of the two middle parts would be as suitable for baritones as it is for tenors.
