Original text and translations
Latin text
Deus qui bonum vinum creasti,
et ex eodem multa capita dolere fecisti,
da nobis quaesumus intellectum
ut saltem possimus invenire lectum.
German translation
Gott, der du guten Wein erschaffen hast,
und mit ihm viele Häupter schmerzen ließt,
gib uns, so bitten wir, den Verstand,
daß wir wenigstens das Bett finden können.
- Translation by Peter Rottländer
English translation
Oh God, creator of good wine –
the source of many a headache –
we pray you, give us wits enough
at least to find the way to bed.
