Latin text
- Descendi in ortum meum
- ut viderem poma convallium,
- et inspicerem si floruissent vineae,
- et germinassent mala punica.
- Revertere, Sunamitis,
- ut intueamur te.
English translation
by Mick Swithinbank
- (Bridegroom:) I went down into my garden
- to see the fruits of the valley,
- and to see whether the vines flourished
- and the pomegranates budded.
- (Unidentified speakers:) Turn, O Shulamite,
- that we may look upon thee.
