Italian text Del vago roscignuolo I soavetti accenti sen portavano i venti, Quando la cupid' alma alzoss' a volo, E co' sospir ardenti Seguì le dolci note per le contrade ignote. Ma ben credea di voi, Madonna, i canti suoi, Però spirando amore Ei mi ferì con la sua voce il core.

German translation Der lieblichen Nachtigall sanfte Töne trugen die Winde mit sich fort, als die begierige Seele sich zum Flug erhob und mit heißen Seufzern den süßen Klängen folgte durch unbekannte Gefilde. Wohle glaubte ich über Euch, meine Dame, ihren Gesängen, allerdings, Liebe verströmend, verwundete sie mit ihrer Stimme mein Herz. Translation by Gerhard Weydt

English translation The lovely nightingale’s mellow sounds were carried away by the winds, as the avid soul rose to flight and with burning sighs followed the sweet sounds through unknown realms.
