It is currently not possible to search on where music is from which is needed for world music. Is it possible to add a field for origin? It would also be necessary to enable this information to be added to current records. Rowaneisner 17:40, 30 September 2009 (UTC)rowan

Hi Rowan, it's currently not possible to add such field for origin; but there are a couple of alternatives: you can search in works by language or select a composer by nationality and then check his works. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 19:49, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

limitation on output of 200 entries

 Help

Is the limitation of 200 results merely because the pagination function has not been created? Or is it more complicated than that? Searching for sacred Latin Renaissance a cappella compositions does not even get past the letter A if it's limited to 200 results. It would be very nice if there was a way to keep paginating through subsequent results or be able to click on a letter to go to pieces that start with that letter.

In fact this was an arbitrary limit specified by me; my thought was that no one would be willing to search through a very long list with hundreds of entries; in your example, someone seaching for "sacred" + "Latin" + "Renaissance" + "a cappella" would probably like to narrow the results even more by specifying a voicing or a subgenre. Anyway, this limit can be increased to up to 2000 if you and others wish so. This would present an extra burden to the server, but nothing that would compromise it significantly. Let me know what you consider a good limit size. —Carlos Email.gif 04:27, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

 Help

Thanks very much for the response!

I guess I am unusual in wanting to see a complete list (esp. since nobody else has asked). My goal is to figure out what pieces I haven't yet sung (sang about 800 since I started keeping track in 2007, though not all from CPDL). If there was a wsy to limit it to music with 4 or more voices, I would, but I'd rather not go through a separate search for each possible type of voicing combination.

However, I now figured out a way to generate this list myself (the answer is 1,924 so your guess of 2,000 would have been perfect!). Given the potential load spikes it could create for CPDL, I think we should not change it unless we see that others besides me have a need for larger numbers.
