One goal of CPDL is to provide usable translations of choral texts. With this in mind, people are encouraged to provide texts which can then be utilized freely by choral musicians worldwide. This page contains guidelines for translations on ChoralWiki. Here are several things to keep in mind.

*'''Original work:''' First and foremost, you cannot simply paste a copyrighted translation here without the translator's express permission. The content on this website must either be original work or public domain.
*'''Copyright:''' Any texts placed here can be freely used by anyone in the world under an open source copyright.
*'''Wiki formatting:''' Translation pages whould be in 'wiki' format. This is a rather easy mark-up language, which allows basic formatting of text (bold, italics, links, pictures, etc.). It is helpful to check out other translations to see what a wiki page looks like (click on the 'edit this page' tab at the top). A basic guide to wiki syntax is available at [[Help:Editing]].
*'''Location of translations:''' Translations of commonly used texts (such as [[Ave Maria]]) should be placed on a separate translation page (see [[Ave verum corpus]] as an example). Translations of texts which are specific to one composer/composition should be placed on the page for that work (see [[Zigeunerleben, Op. 29, No. 3 (Robert Schumann)]]). To see which translations already have their own pages, [[:Category:Text pages|click here]].
*'''Translations and Categories:''' All texts that have translations should have a line at the bottom that places it in a given [text-translation' category. The line looks like this: <nowiki>[[Category:Texts-translations]][[Category:Latin texts]] (or some other language)</nowiki>.
*'''Translations and Links:''' Whenever possible, there should be as many useful links between pages as possible. Links to other wiki pages are created using double brackets. When you create a common translation, it would be great if you can add a link to that page on each individual work. The code that you need to type to do this is <nowiki>{{LinkText|Pater noster}}</nowiki>. If there are many texts, please leave a message on [http://www.choralwiki.org/phpBB2/ the forums], and an admin will sort out your request.
*'''Links for Translations:''' Here are some links to pages that have many translations that need to be ported over to CPDL. The contributors have given permission for their work to be posted here.
