The Composer prefaced the score with the following comment (spelling modernised): "El canon que se sigue, es en 2a, una voz despues de otra: tiene su práctica las dificultades, que encontrara qualquiera que emprenda habilidad [illegible] mejante: su operación no puede ser muy agradable al oído; por lo que aconsejo que no se use sino en pequeños fragmentos sobre los quales se ponga un acompañamiento, que disimule, y abrigue algunas asperezas que puede ser tenga aquella modulación".
