  • (Posted 2018-09-12)  CPDL #51294:  Icon_pdf_globe.gif Icon_snd_globe.gif Icon_zip.gif (LilyPond)
Editor: Alistair Kirk (submitted 2018-09-12).   Score information: A4, 5 pages   Copyright: CPDL
Edition notes: Transposed up from likely performance pitch (still down a tone from publication pitch) to be suitable for SATTB. The Lilypond source code is specially designed to be easy to transpose, change clefs, change music font size, change paper size etc, so users are encouraged to experiment: see my | easy guide here. Corrections and constructive criticism welcomed. See https://github.com/guidallambert/Gabrieli-AveSanctissimaMaria

Editor: Alistair Kirk (submitted 2018-09-12).   Score information: A4, 5 pages   Copyright: CPDL
Edition notes: High clefs suggest an original performance pitch down a fifth from the published source for ATTTB but other voicings should work - ATTBB, ATBBB, STTTB, STTBB or STBBB etc. The Lilypond source code is specially designed to be easy to transpose, change clefs, change music font size, change paper size etc, so users are encouraged to experiment: see my | easy guide here. Composer: Andrea Gabrieli
Lyricist:

Number of voices: 5vv   Voicings: SATTB or ATTTB

Genre: SacredMotetMaria

Language: Latin

{{Published}} is obsolete (code commented out), replaced with {{Pub}} for works and {{PubDatePlace}} for publications.

Description: A short, but charming Marian motet suitable for all liturgical contexts associated with the Virgin Mary.

Andreae Gabrielis Sacrae Cantiones […], Liber Primus, published Antonio Gardano, Venice 1565. See the main CPDL page for this publication for more commentary and links to the other motets in the volume.

As suggested on the 1565 title page, instrumental support or substitution is optional but worth considering. The source is in high clefs, so downward transposition for performance was likely.

Ave sanctissima Maria, Mater Dei, Regina Caeli,
Porta Paradisi, Domina mundi.
Pura singularis tu es virgo.
Tu concepisti Iesum sine peccato.
Tu peperisti Creatorem et Salvatorem mundi, in quo non dubito.
Libera me ab omni malo et ora pro peccatis meis.
