The 4-part Ave Maria of Josquin Des Prez was so popular in the sixteenth century that an anonymous composer, probably working after Josquin's death, circulated a version with two new added voices. It has been suggested that the composer of these added parts might have been the Austrian composer Ludwig Daser (ca. 1525-1589) who is known to have composed a parody Mass on the Josquin Ave Maria a 4. This work has been recorded by the early music group Zephyrus on their CD Angelus.
