Description: This work holds a particularly personal meaning to me. It is a work that I wrote reflecting on many things, both in fact and in meaning, surrounding death and those who remain. While some of the more intricate meanings in the work I will hold close to myself, this work is a reflection about two of my dear departed friends who both passed far too soon and at far too a young age after losing their long, courageous battles with breast cancer and leukaemia.

This work should be performed with an emphasis on phrasing within each section and particular attention to intonation. This is particularly important with regard to the drone notes held by the altos and basses as well as moments of dissonance scattered throughout the work. With precise tuning, the intended sonority should sparkle through. The dynamics offered should be a guide to performance, but what is more important is the balance between the sections, the gradual changes in dynamics and smoothly ‘passing the baton’ between parts.

English.png English text

I have squandered our endless youth;
I've taken it for granted
and now its claws have torn us apart
it's too late, far too late
too late to say goodbye to you my friend
for now, my love is here beneath my feet.
