Description: The third book of Hermann Finck's Practica Musica is dedicated to canons. This is the last of the 26 examples that it contains. As with the rest of the collection, this piece is unattributed; however, unlike the other items, a text is printed (in the discantus part only). The piece has the inscription Le desir croist quant et quant lesperance / Desiderium crescit cum spe ("Desire increases with hope"). Finck provides four voices and explains that a fifth voice can be generated from the discantus, an eleventh below, but on reaching the text "Le désir croît…", the note lengths are to be doubled.
