Biography Luigi was a student of his uncle, Ludovico Balbi. He is first documented as a singer at San Marco Venice in 1585, moving to the Basilica of S Antonio, Padua the same year and becoming organist there. After serving as maestro di cappella at the Carità in Venice and in Zara, he returned to Venice as a chorister. He later directed the Cappella del Santo, Padua from 1615 until its dissolution in 1621.
