Publications using VolumesEditions

1 – Published 1832 – by Robinson and Hollis in Winchester, Virginia
2 – Published 1835 – by Robinson and Hollis in Winchester, Virginia, 224 pp.
3 – Published 1842 – by Henry Wartmann in Harrisonburg, Virginia
4 – Published 1847 – by Joseph Funk and Sons in Mountain Valley, Virginia

Description: Influenced by Wyeth's Repository (1813), Patterson's Church Music (1813), Freeman Lewis' Beauties of Harmony (1814), Davisson's Kentucky Harmony (1816), and Leavitt's Christian Lyre (1830). In turn, influenced Walker's Southern Harmony (1835) and Southern and Western Pocket Harmonist (1846), White and King's Sacred Harp (1844), and Hauser's Hesperian Harp (1848). See Harmonia Sacra for editions after 1847. Winchester, Virginia is about 65 miles up the Shenandoah Valley from Harrisonburg, and Mountain Valley is 12 miles northeast of Harrisonburg. Ananias Davisson of Kentucky Harmony fame lived in Harrisonburg for most of his adult life until his death in 1847. It is likely that the musical type used in this book's first two editions was borrowed from Davisson.
