Description: Composed 1780 or before. Appears first in The Waterhouse Manuscript, copied March 16, 1781, for Tenor-Bass; and in The Shepard Fish Manuscript (Massachusetts Historical Society Ms. S-290), ca. 1790, for Treble-Counter-Tenor. Kroeger (1981) gives suggestions about merging these. Words by Isaac Watts, 1709, Hymn 3 of Book 2, with six stanzas. The manuscripts have only the first stanza.
