General Information
Title: Deliver us, O Lord
Composer: Orlando Gibbons
Lyricist:
Number of voices: 5vv Voicings: SAATB or SATB
Genre: Sacred, Anthem
Language: English
Instruments: A cappella
First published: 1873 in A Collection of the Sacred Compositions of Orlando Gibbons
Description: First published in 1873 by Novello, edited by Rev. Sir Frederick A. Gore Ouseley, with the identifying note: of which the scores are not contained in Dr Boyce's collection and only existed prior in manuscript and part books. Although the volume contains two pieces now attributed to Henry Loosemore, the style does appear to be that of Gibbons. The anthem is paired as the prima pars of Blessed be the Lord. Although in Ouseley's publication (and presumably the manuscript sources from which he was working) there are only four voices, it is clear from the number of open 5ths that this leaves that there is a missing voice.
