Title: Vom Himmel kam der Engel Schar, a cappella excerpt from the cantata.
Composer: Johann Schelle
Lyricist: Martin Luther

Number of voices: 5vv   Voicing: SSATB
Genre: SacredCarol

Language: German
Instruments: A cappella

First published:
Description: This is an arrangement of the first verse of Schelle‘s cantata with the same name, using only the choir voices, and underlaying the text of the 2nd and 3rd verse as well. This has been done in a similar way by some editors and choirs including the Thomanerchor Leipzig. The melody is, of course ‚Vom Himmel hoch…‘. Luther published both texts for the same melody in the same publication (1543).
