Hello Dan, the text of your "Christe Jesu, pastor bone" by Taverner reads "Elizabetham Angliae reginae serva". Are you sure about this? I can't seem to make sense of it. It would be easier to read "reginam", which would translate neatly into "save Elizabeth, Queen of England". Best regards T.a.k. 14:31, 4 October 2006 (PDT)

Latin translation

Thanks for looking. The line "Et Elizabetham nostram Angliae reginae serva," matches my O.U.P. score and the recording and booklet from The Cambridge Singers album "Treasures of English Church Music." Clifford Barlett and John Rutter have translated the line, "Preserve Elizabeth our Queen of England."

Regards, D.F.

Hi Dan, looks like a self-perpetuating typo to me (I suppose the Cambridge Singers used the Oxford score as well); for a Latin scholar (ahem) it's fairly clear that there ought to be an accusative case to go with Elizabetham, but since I don't have access to a critical edition, let alone an original manuscript (which might well have a misleading ligature there), I'm afraid we'll have to leave it at that. Thanks for your consideration, though, and, incidentally, thanks for yet another beautiful score! Regards T.a.k. 12:47, 23 October 2006 (PDT)
