Minor question/comment:

  '... which prompted the comment from Greene that "Mr King was a very serviceable man".'

But was it not the large number of services that Greene wrote which caused this comment from Greene, rather than the 'infelicities' in them?

Power imbalance in the Bury St Edmunds brewery - too much Greene and not enough King - evident in your comment. Greene WAS commenting on technical deficiencies (34 examples of parallel octaves or fifths in this service, according to my harmony checker). Whilst employing a supplementary but significant use of the word "serviceable" (O.E.D.) he effected a serendipitous pun referring to King's fecundity.
