Talk:Henry Walford Davies

The Wikipedia page on Henry Walford Davies indicates that his surname is Davies, not Walford Davies or Walford-Davies.

The relevant section on its Talk: page indicates that

"Grove lists him under D for Davies. It's clear from the article that Walford was never part of his surname, as it was his grandmother's maiden name. His full legal name was Henry Walford Davies, but he preferred to be known as plain Walford Davies."

In the light of that I'm inclined to change on his page here the DefaultSort and other instances of his name.

I won't take any immediate action, in order for the idea to be shot down in flames first!

Indeed, the surname should be Davies,, in accord with Grove. The hyphenated Walford-Davies seems to be an anachronism which has led some to give "Walford Davies" as the surname. And Davies preferred to be called Walford Davies (with his middle name replacing his given name. My father, whose full name was William Duncan Giffen, was known to nearly everyone as Duncan, the surname of his maternal grandmother, too. There were far too many other relatives in his family named William, and Will, Bill, Billy were already well-used), so he opted to be known as Duncan Giffen, or occasionally as W. Duncan Giffen. I'll make the sorting change immediately. Thanks, and welcome back, Peter! -- Chucktalk Giffen 01:54, 22 November 2019 (UTC)
And I've just changed Walford-Davies to Walford Davies in the Aliases and picture caption.
