English text
In lovely hues at eventide,
As softly sinks the setting sun,
Its parting rays in clouds abide,
While shadows fall and day is done.
The smile that lingers on the face,
And plays upon the placid brow,
Its wonted life we fondly trace,
E’en when ’tis set as thou art now.
O when our eventide shall fall,
May ours be such a golden crest,
And as death’s shadows us enthrall,
May we as gently sink to rest.
