English text
1 Spring, ye flow'rets, spring from earth,
We would fain be garlands wreathing;
With your fragrance, vernal mirth
Thro' the land be straightway breathing:
Spread your robe of varied hue
O'er the landscape dull and grey;
Be the pallid drops of dew
Full of colours fresh and gay.
2 Bloom once more, ye roses fair,
Now shall tender breezes lightly
Touch your petals soft and rare,
Now shall sunbeams greet you brightly.
Gleam, ye lilies pure and pale,
Thro' the shade of twinkling leaves;
Let the waking year unveil
All the beauty nature weaves.
3 Messengers are ye of joy,
Joy to all around you giving;
Since delight without alloy
In your simple life is living.
Spring once more, then all ye flow'rs,
To enchant our longing sight;
Spring to meet the quick'ning show'rs,
Spring to seek the welcome light.
