Description: The piece appears in G. Arascione's "Laudi Ariose" collection, published in Rome in 1600. In the original source the first voice is notated in soprano clef, the second voice is notated in mezzosoprano clef, the Tenor voice in alto clef and the lower voice in tenor clef. The voices' ranges are small and fairly high, which could indicate the piece was meant to be performed by a "voci pari" choir.

Italian.png Italian text

S'io di te penso e del tuo amor, Maria
o che dolce pensier, che dolce foco!
S'io ti contemplo e cerco, Virgo pia,
che dolc'esercitio e dolce gioco.
Se teco parlo e sta la mente mia,
o che dolce colloquio e dolce loco.
Se così dolce sei, Virgo, in assentia,
che sarà poi lassù la tua presentia?
