English text
The merry lark his joyous lay
Is trilling out on high,
From out the fulness of his heart
He sings and so do I.
My heart is glad for my true love
Loves me and me alone
So like the lark my tuneful lays
Must make a joyous tone.
Sweet bird, that up to heaven soars
To raise thy carol there,
O bear my grateful song on high,
O take my earnest prayer.
The prayer that fond requited love
E’er breathes in grateful tone,
Is sent by thee, sweet bird, on high,
To bear to Love’s own throne.
