Vox tonitrui tui, Deus, in rota:
Iohannes est Evangelista mundi per ambitum,
praedicans lumen coelicum,
qui triumphans Romae lavit in vino stolam suam
et in sanguine olivae pallium suum.

virgineo corpore tripudiat in igne.
Gloria patri et filio et spiritui sancto,
sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper,

Responsorium
Der Schall deines Donners, Gott, ringsumher:
Johannes ist der Evangelist im ganzen Erdenrund,
das himlische Licht verkündend,
der zu Rom triumphierend sein Gewand in Wein
und im Öl der Olive seinen Mantel wusch.
Nachdem er über den Senat und den Kaiser gesiegt hatte,
tanzte er mit keuschem Körper im Feuer.
Ehre sei dem Vater und dem Sohn und dem Heiligen Geist,
wie es war im Anfang, jetzt und immerdar,
und von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit. Amen.

Inmitten der Kirche öffnete der Herr ihm den Mund
und erfüllte ihn mit dem Geist der Weisheit und des Verstands,
und mit dem Gewand der Herrlichkeit bekleidete er ihn.
Gut ist es, sich zum Herrn zu bekennen,
und deinem Namen zu lobsingen, o Allerhöchster.

Dies ist derjenige Jünger,

Johannes, von Jesus Christus vielgeliebte Jungfrau,

verließest deinen leiblichen Vater im Boot.
Den zarten Busen der Braut hast du verschmäht, um dem Messias zu folgen,
auf dass du vedientest, das Heilige, das seiner Brust entströmt, zu trinken.
Und du sahest noch auf Erden den Ruhm desGottessohns,
was, wie man glaubt, die Heiligen nur im ewigen Leben schauen können.
Dich gab Christus, als er das Kreuz besiegte, seiner Mutter zum Beschützer,
auf dass die Jungfrau der Jungrfrau diente und für sie sorgte.
Du gibst, selbst kraftlos von Kerker und Geißeln, freudig Zeugnis von Christus,
ebenso erweckst du die Toten und besiegst im Namen Jesu das starke Gift.
Dir offenbart der höchste Vater sein Wort, das er anderen verschweigt.
Empfiehl du uns allzeit mit eifrigen Gebeten dem Vater.

Responsorium
The sound of your thunder, God, all around:
John is the evangelist all over the world,
proclaiming the heavenly light,
who triumphing in Rome washed his robe in wine
and his cloak in the blood of the olive tree.
After he had vanquished the senate and Caesar,
he danced in the fire with his virgin body.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.
II. Introitus
In the midst of the church the Lord opened his mouth,
and filled him with the spirit of wisdom and understanding,
he clothed him with the robe of glory.
Well it is to confess to the Lord,
and to sing psalms to your name, o Most High .
III. Alleluia
This is that disciple
that gives testimony of that and who wrote that;
and we know that his testimony is true.
IV. Prosa
Thou, O John, Virgin much beloved by Jesus Christ,
For whose love thou hast left thy biological father in the boat.
Thou hast rejected the soft breast of a wife, to follo the Messiah,
That thou mayest drink the holyness flowing from His breast
And thou, [still] placed on earth, hast seen the glory of the Son of God,
Which, as we believe, the Saints can only behold in the eternal life.
Thee Christ, triumphant on the cross, gave as a guardian to his mother,
That thou, virgin, wouldst serve the Virgin and support her in her needs.
Broken by prison and scourging, thou couldst still rejoice in Christ’s testimony.
Thou resurrectest the dead, and in Jesus’s name thou vanquishest the strong poison.
The most high Father revealeth to thee his Word, of which He was silent to the others.
Commend us always with assiduous prayers to he Father,
John, beloved of Jesus.
