Description: Dedicated to Cardinal Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle. The Quintus and Sextus parts sing Granvelle's motto: Durate as a cantus firmus in "soggetto cavato" technique, they sing "ut fa re", the vowels of "Durate" (u, a, e) on the hexachordum naturale (C-F-D), on the hexachordum molle (F-B flat-G) and the hexachordum durum (G-C-A), while the other 4 parts sing Virgil's text.

o socii neque enim ignari sumus ante malorum
o passi graviora dabit deus his quoque finem,
experti revocate animos moestumque timorem
mittite, forsan et haec olim meminisse juvabit.
