Ya que era llegado el tiempo
en que de nacer había,
así como desposado
de su tálamo salía

Abrazado con su esposa,
que en sus brazos la traía;
al cual la graciosa Madre
en un pesebre ponía

Noche mística, llena de luz
Porque ha nacido hoy el salvador
En prece, reverentes
Los magos del oriente
Se alegran, pues nasció Jesús

Entre unos animales
que a la sazón allí había.
Los hombres decían cantares,
los ángeles melodía,

Festejando el desposorio
que entre tales dos había.
Pero Dios en el pesebre
allí lloraba y gemía;

Noche mística, llena de luz
Porque ha nacido hoy el salvador
En prece, reverentes
Los magos del oriente
Se alegran, pues nasció Jesús

Que eran joyas que la esposa
al desposorio traía.
Y la Madre estaba en pasmo
(de que él) tal trueque veía:

El llanto de el hombre en Dios,
y en el hombre la alegría;
lo cual de el uno y del otro
tan ajeno ser solía.

Noche mística, llena de luz
Porque ha nacido hoy el salvador
En prece, reverentes
Los magos del oriente
Se alegran, pues nasció Jesús
¡El redentor! ¡El Hijo de Dios!

Quando foi chegado o tempo
Em que de nascer havia,
Assim como o desposado,
Do seu tálamo saía

Abraçado à sua esposa,
Que em seus braços a trazia;
Ao qual a bendita Mãe
Em um presépio poria

Noite mística, plena de luz
De vossos pecados, eis a salvação
Em prece, reverentes,
Os magos do Oriente
Exultam, pois nasceu Jesus!

Entre pobres animais
Que então por ali havia.
Os homens davam cantares,
Os anjos a melodia,

Festejando o desposório
Que entre aqueles dois havia.
Deus, porém, no presépio
Ali chorava e gemia

Noite mística, plena de luz
De vossos pecados, eis a salvação
Em prece, reverentes,
Os magos do Oriente
Exultam, pois nasceu Jesus!

Eram jóias que a esposa
Ao desposório trazia;
E a Mãe se assombrava
Da troca que ali se via:

O pranto do homem em Deus,
E no homem a alegria;
Coisas que num e no outro
Tão diferente ser soía.

Noite mística, plena de luz
De vossos pecados, eis a salvação
Em prece, reverentes,
Os magos do Oriente
Exultam, pois nasceu Jesus!
O Redentor! O Filho de Deus!

Now that the season was approaching
Of His long expected birth
Like a bridgegroom from his chamber
He emerged upon our earth

Clinging close to His beloved
Whom He brought along with Him
While the gracious Mary placed them
In a manger damp and dim

Mystic night! Jesus Christ is now born!
To take away the sins of the mankind
Rejoice ye, all the world
And renew ye all thy hopes
Since today will shine the Saviour’s light!

Amongst animals that round it
At that season streatched their limbs
The men were singing songs of gladness
And angels were chanting hymns

Celebrating the wondrous marriage
By whose bond such two were tied
But the wee God in the manger
He alone made moan and cried

Mystic night! Jesus Christ is now born!
To take away the sins of the mankind
Rejoice ye, all the world
And renew ye all thy hopes
Since today will shine the Saviour’s light!

Tears were the jewels of the dowry
Which the bride with her had brought
And the Mother gazed upon them
Nearly fainting at the thought

And the tears of Man in God alone
Joy of God in men was seen
Two things so alien to each other
Or to the rule, had never been

Mystic night! Jesus Christ is now born!
To take away the sins of the mankind
Rejoice ye, all the world
And renew ye all thy hopes
Since today will shine the Saviour’s light!
The Saviour’s light! The Saviour’s light!

French.png French text

Or, étant advenu le temps
Où naître il devait
Comme un joyeux époux
De son lit il sortait

Étreignant son épouse,
Qu’en ses bras il enserre;
Et en une crèche le desposait
La gracieuse Mère

Nuit mystique, pleine de lumière
De vos pechées, vous avez la salvation
À Bethlehem, en priant
Les mages de l’Orient
Se réjouissent, car Jesus est né!

Parmi d’aucuns animaux
Qui d’aventure là se trouvaient
Les hommes disaient les chansons
Les anges mélodie chantaient

Faisant fête aux épousailles
Qu’entre deux tels y avait
Or Dieu, en la crèche
Là pleurait et gémissait:

Nuit mystique, pleine de lumière
De vos pechées, vous avez la salvation
À Bethlehem, en priant
Les mages de l’Orient
Se réjouissent, car Jesus est né!

C’etaient des joyaux qu’aux épousailles
Apportait l’épousée
Et à voir un tel troc
Donc la Mère était pamée

Les pleurs de l’homme en Dieu
Et la liesse en l’homme
Ce qui, à un et l’autre
Tant étrange était en somme!

Nuit mystique, pleine de lumière
De vos pechées, vous avez la salvation
À Bethlehem, en priant
Les mages de l’Orient
Se réjouissent, car Jesus est né!
Le Rédempteur! Le Fils de Dieu!
