General Information

Title: Mille regretz
Composer: Josquin des Prez

Number of voices: 4vv   Voicings: SATB or ATTB
Genre: SecularChanson

Language: French
Instruments: A cappella

First published: 1533 in Chansons musicales a quatre parties (Pierre Attaingnant), no. 18
2nd published: 1549 in Unziesme livre contenant vingt et neuf chansons amoureuses (Tielman Susato) – the first ascription to Josquin, no. 17
3rd published: 1929 in Das Chorwerk, no. 3.1
Description: The title is sometimes written 'Mille regrets'. This famous chanson appears to be an expression of the singer's anguish at the end of a love affair, but Susato's chanson réponse (Les miens aussi) treats the singer's protestations as insincere.

There is a parody mass by Morales for 6vv.
