Born: June 28, 1703, Epworth, Lincolnshire, England.

Died: March 2, 1791, London, England.

John and his brother Charles founded the MethodistLink to the English Wikipedia article movement. Charles was the main hymnist in the family, but John translated a number of hymns (mostly German) himself. He began studying the German language on board the ship Simmons, which carried him and Charles to Georgia in 1735. Also on the ship were 26 German Moravian colonists, and Wesley wanted to be able to talk with them and share in their worship services.

  • Commit thou all thy griefs (Samuel Wesley)
  • Eternal depth of love divine
  • Extended on a Cursèd Tree
  • Give to the Winds Thy Fears
  • High on His Everlasting Throne
  • What Shall We Offer Our Good Lord?
  • High Praise to Thee, All Gracious God
  • Holy Lamb, Who Thee Receive
  • How happy is the pilgrim's lot
  • I Thank Thee, Uncreated Sun
  • I Thirst, Thou Wounded Lamb of God
  • Into Thy Gracious Hands I Fall
  • Jesu, Thy Soul Renew My Own
  • Jesu, to Thee My Heart I Bow
  • Jesu, Whose Glory’s Streaming Rays
  • Jesu, thy blood and righteousness
  • Jesus, Thy Boundless Love to Me
  • Lo, God Is Here!
  • Meek, Patient Lamb of God, to Thee
  • Monarch of All, with Lowly Fear
  • My Soul Before Thee Prostrate Lies
  • Now I Have Found the Ground Wherein
  • O God, My God, My All Thou Art!
  • O God of God, in Whom Combine
  • O God, of Good the Unfathomed Sea
  • O God Thou Bottomless Abyss
  • O God, What Offering Shall I Give
  • O Jesu, Source of Calm Repose
  • O Thou to Whose All Searching Sight
  • O Thou Who All Things Canst Control
  • O Thou Whom Sinners Love, Whose Care
  • Regardless Now of Things Below
  • Shall I, for Fear of Feeble Man
  • Thee will I love, my strength, my tower
  • Thine, Lord, Is Wisdom, Thine Alone
  • Thou Hidden Love of God
  • Thou, Jesu, Art Our King
  • Thou Lamb of God, Thou Prince of Peace
  • Thou, True and Only God
  • To Thee with Heart and Mouth I Sing
  • What Shall We Offer Our Good Lord
