English.png English translation

"I tell you, girl, my husband is handsome and fine,"
Once two women from the same village were gossiping,
Saying one to the other, "Do you have a good husband?"
"He doesn't scold me, or beat me either.
He does the chores,
He feeds the chickens
And I take my pleasure.
Girl, you have to laugh
to hear the cries of the chickens,
'Little flirt (co, co, co, co, da), what is that?'"

[Note: ”Petite coquette” (“little flirt”), which the husband is calling to his wife from the yard as she misbehaves, is also used (along with “co co da”) to imitate the sound of hens.]

Italian.png Italian translation

«Mio marito è bello e buono, comare.»
Così due donne dello stesso paese
dicevano l'una all'altra: «Hai un buon marito.»
«Non mi sgrida e neanche mi picchia,
sbriga le faccende di casa,
dà da mangiare alle galline
e io me la godo.
Comare, c’è davvero da ridere
quando le galline chiocciano.»
Co co co coccodè, civettuole, cos'è questo
«Mio marito è bello e buono, comare»?

Polish.png Polish translation

Translation by Stanisław Jonczyk
Cny i ładny jest mój mąż mąż mąż
W pewnym mieście plotkowały dwie kobiety
Czy dobrego męża masz? Bo ja niestety…
Rzekła druga – mnie nie ruga i nie bije
I kury nakarmi i świniom da pomyje
A i o mojej uciesze nie zapomina
Śmiać mi się chce gdy sobie przypominam
Że jak kury i koguty ludzie gdaczą
Ko ko ko- przecież małe flirty nic nie znaczą
