English text
1 A huntsman was heard to sound his horn,
Trara, trara, trara,
While pensively pacing the woods at morn,
Trara, trara, trara.
He shot neither pheasant, nor hare, nor hind,
For he was troubled in heart and mind,
Trara, trara, trara,
Since maiden to him had been kind.
2 The call of the horn surprised her ear,
Trara, trara, trara,
Sank deep in her heart as it drew more near,
Trara, trara, trara.
And forth she ran to the garden elate,
To see if the huntsman neared the gate,
Trara, trara, trara,
Nor long had the maiden to wait.
3 The maiden received her early guest,
Trara, trara, trara,
Her hand to his faltering lips he pressed,
Trara, trara, trara.
"And wilt thou then with a huntsman share
His humble cot and his frugal fare?"
Trara, trara, trara,
Her blushes consent did declare.
4 The wreath with her hair was soon entwined,
Trara, trara, trara,
Te horn to the wedding a call did wind,
Trara, trara, trara.
The youth and his bride the dance did grace,
And joy was beaming in ev'ry face,
Trara, trara, trara,
Hurrah for the sons of the chase.
