Description: This tune was printed in John Newton's first book The Pilgrim [c1834] under the name 'Sovereignty'. In his book The Music of the Methodist Hymn Book (1935), James T. Lightwood notes that the tune (republished as no. 356 in the 1933 Methodist Hymn Book) had been renamed as 'Huddersfield' in 'some recent Welsh hymnals such as E. Stephens' Ail Llyfr Tonau ac Emynau (1879)'.
