English.png English text

1  No day draws near its ending,
But in its course my thought
Has unto thee been wending,
With love's sweet burden fraught.
From out my soul, unspoken,
Until withdrawn the light,
Have countless greetings broken,
And latest comes "goodnight."

2  Each day the time, now ended,
When I was with thee last,
Before me lies extended
A bright and happy past.
Each day in expectation
Of blissful hours in store,
I find an inspiration
That fills me more and more.

3  To sleep when I address me,
O my betrothed bride,
Thy name a charm to bless me,
I speak at eventide,
Had I but wings to bear me,
To thee I'd speed my flight,
Each night thou shouldest hear me
Repeating my "goodnight."
