Biography American Methodist elder and itinerant preacher, and hymn writer. He probably came to America in 1801. He was physically handicapped, having only one functional leg; yet he traveled widely in the mountains of Kentucky and western Virginia (Richard Hulan, in Steel and Hulan 2010).
