Domine Dominus noster
Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! (Psalm 8)
Domine, Dominus noster
quam admirabile est nomen tuum
in universa terra!
Look, in awesome wonder, at the Heavens above.
Our Sun exploding its light
That fuels our very life;
Our Moon casting its silvery gleam
Across the ink-black sky; and
The Stars that sparkle and flicker their witness
Of the dawn of time.
Marvel at the splendour of the mighty Sea –
(Quiver and shiver, slither and slew,
Quaver and waver, turning the screw.
Calling and bawling, roaring and snoring,)
Its mirror glass and its monstrous rage.
(And its crash and its clash, and thrash and slash,
And its smash and splash, and
Slipping and whipping, licking, kicking,
Ringing and singing, hitting, spitting!)
Look across to the hill and the dale;
Can you see the line, the curve, the unison?
And the acorn becomes the oak, and
The caterpillar becomes the butterfly, and
The fledgling becomes the eagle.
And to Man is given dominance, and with it trust.
But above all things, known and unknown,
Reigns Love, eternal and supreme.
For Love is God, and God is Love.
Deus caritas est.
