Original text
Deus qui bonum vinum creasti,
et ex eodem multa capita dolere fecisti,
da nobis quaesumus intellectum
ut saltem possimus invenire lectum.

Sacred contrafact (from Le thresor de musique d'Orlande de Lassus)
Deus, qui bonum vinum creavit,
Et vino abutentes capitis dolore mulctavit,
Toller priorsus istis intellectum
Nec unquam quietum invenient lectum.

Translation by Peter Rottländer
Gott, der du guten Wein erschaffen hast,
und mit ihm viele Häupter schmerzen ließt,
gib uns, so bitten wir, den Verstand,
daß wir wenigstens das Bett finden können.

English.png English translation

Oh God, creator of good wine –
the source of many a headache –
we pray you, give us wits enough
at least to find the way to bed.
