German text Dem dunkeln Schoss der heiligen Erde vertraut der Sämann seine Saat und hofft, dass sie entkeimen werde zum Segen nach des Himmels Rat. Noch köstlicheren Samen bergen wir trauernd in der Erde Schoss und hoffen, dass er aus den Särgen erblühen soll zu schönerm Los.

English translation To holy earth's e'er-dark'ning bosom The sower doth entrust his seed And hopes, indeed, that it will blossom To bless, as Heaven’s bath decreed. Still costlier the seed we've buried With sorrow in the womb of earth And hope, that from the coffin carried 'Twill bloom to fairer fortune forth.
