Latin text Anima mea liquefacta est, ut dilectus locutus est. Quaesivi et non inveni illum; vocavi et non respondit mihi. Invenerunt me custodes civitatis, percusserunt me et vulneraverunt me. Tulerunt pallium meum custodes murorum. Filiae Hierusalem, nuntiate dilecto quia amore langueo.

English translation My soul failed when my beloved spoke; I sought him, but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer. The watchmen of the city found me, they smote me and they wounded me. The keepers of the walls took away my veil from me. Daughters of Jerusalem, tell my beloved that I am sick of love.
