Description: A relatively long set piece; the first part is eight lines, C. M. D., and the "Chorus" is another eight lines, L. M. D. First published by Edward Miller as "The Parting" in London, 1800, for three voices, apparently ATB. Except for a reprinted version by Miller in 1803, all the rest of the publications are American. The first four-part version was an arrangement for four parts (TrCTB) by Andrew Law in 1805, entitled "Washington"; it was first called "The Band of Love" in "Wyeth's Repository, Part Second" in 1813. In the West, four-part revised editions appeared in Samuel Metcalf's Kentucky Harmonist and Allen Carden's Missouri Harmony. Later editions mostly use the title "The Band of Love".

1. Our souls by love together knit,
Cemented, mixed in one –
One hope, one heart, one mind, one voice,
Is heaven on earth begun:
Our hearts have burned while Jesus spoke,
And glowed with sacred fire;
He stopped and talked and fed and blessed,
And filled the enlarged desire.

CHORUS
A Savior! let creation sing!
A Savior! let all heaven ring!
He's God with us, we feel him ours,
His fulness in our souls he pours:
The parting space we'll soon run o'er,
To join the saints who've gone before,
We then shall meet to part no more.

2. The little cloud increases still,
The heavens are big with rain;
We haste to catch the teeming shower,
And all its moisture drain:
A rill, a stream, a torrent flows,
But pour a mighty flood –
O sweep the nations, shake the earth,
Till all proclaim thee God!

3. And when thou make thy jewels up,
And set thy starry crown,
When all thy sparkling gems shall shine,
Proclaimed by thee thine own,
May we, a little band of love,
All sinners saved by grace,
From glory into glory changed,
Behold thee face to face!
