French text J'ayme le cueur de m'Amye Sa bonté, et sa doulceur. Je l'ayme sans infamie, Et comme ung Frère la Soeur. Amityé desmesurée, N'est jamais bien asseurée, Et mect les cueurs en tourment; Je veulx aymer aultrement. Modern French J'aime le cœur de mon amie, sa bonté et sa douceur. Je l'aime sans infamie et comme un frère sa sœur. Une amitié démesurée n'est jamais bien assurée et met le cœur en tourment. Je veux aimer autrement.

English translation I love the heart of my Lady Her goodness and sweetness are bliss. My love for her isn’t shady, But like a brother for his sis. Yet friendship that is without bound Is not necessarily sound, And can make hearts agonize; Would I could love otherwise. Translation by Thomas Daughton
