Giles Farnaby was born in 1560 in Truro, Cornwall, the son of Thomas Farnaby, a scholar and schoolmaster. It seems it was his cousin, Nicholas, a maker of virginals, who turned him to music and it is for his contributions to the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book
