Vergine saggia e pura,
Tra l‘anime beate illustre eletta,
Angelica di mortal macchia netta;
Ti rinchiudesti in cella
Per Dio servir ancella.
Trionfa in terra hor sotto oscuro velo,
Poscia lieto di te gioisca‘l cielo.

German translation

Weise und reine Jungfrau,
unter den erhabenen seligen Geistern erwählt,
engelsgleich, rein von irdischem Schmutz;
du schlossest dich in der Kammer ein,
um Gott als Magd zu dienen.
Triumphiere nun auf Erden unter finsterem Schleier,
dann wird der Himmel sich deiner erfreuen.

English translation

Virgin sage and pure,
elected among the illustrious blessed spirits,
angelic, undefiled by earthly filth;
you enclosed yourself in your chamber
to serve God as maid.
Triumph now on earth below this obscure veil,
then heaven will rejoice in you.
