General Information

Title: Verde lauro a 5 (also found in a 6vv version)
Composer: Philippe de Monte
Lyricist:
Number of voices: 5vv   Voicing: SSATB
Genre: SecularMadrigal

Language: Italian
Instruments: A cappella

First published: 1586 in L'undecimo libro delli madrigali a 5 voci, Venice, Angelo Gardano
Description: This was published beforehand as a version for 6 voices in "Il Lauro verde (Vittorio Baldini)". The remark "6. parte aggiunta" suggests that this part was not provided by Monte. No complete print of the Undecimo libro is available online for the moment, but the CATB parts available are identical with the Lauro verde print (with the exception of a missing sharp in the Canto in m. 10 in the Undecimo libro), hence the Quinto of "Lauro verde" has been used here. The version for five parts sounds complete and convincing.
