Hello Carlos, thank you for your help and reply. I am new as a contributor to CPDL, but since I have been profiting a lot from the site and sometimes generate scores for our choir I wanted to share that with you. Please tell me if I am doing something wrong or should change things. Best regards Jean (French for John)

Hi Jean, you went through your first submission process very well! To make things even simpler for you, there's no need to run the "Add work" form every time you upload an updated version of an edition; when the new score is uploaded using the very same filename, it automatically overwrites the previous version and is instantly available for download by visitors.
Si tu as plus de doutes et préfèrent en discuter avec un admin qui parle français nativement, tu peux également contacter Claude Tallet, qui se fera un plaisir de t'aider. Cordialement, —Carlos Email.gif 06:40, 10 June 2014 (UTC)

Hi Carlos, thank you and thanks for your help! I am quite OK with English as a conversation language. Let me explain: I am from the Netherlands, my family is largely from Belgium, near Louvain, that is why my name is French. I do speak French, but my mother tongue is Dutch. I have been living in Frankfurt am Main Germany for the last 40 years however. So I speak fluent Dutch, German and English, but French only say at working level. I explained my name "Jean" to you because most USA and English speaking people think of me as being female and keep writing to me as Mrs. Jean Smolders. Once that is in their IT system, you cannot get it out again most of the time. Cheers Jean

Lol, now I got it! Fortunately for you I live in Brazil, where Jean is a masculine name, too. :)

Upload by Jean

Hi Carlos, I Uploaded a pdf end mid version of Giovanni Gabrieli's "Omnes gentes" for 16 singing voices. Could you please put it on the site. I am hopelessly unable to cope with the publishing procedure. Thanks so much Jean

Hi Jean, I could find your pdf for Omnes gentes plaudite, but not the midi file. The pdf is already available here. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 17:13, 30 October 2014 (UTC)

And another one

just added another one :-) Bianciardi: Benedictus es Domine (bian-ben)

Regards Jean (and thanks for your help!

Hi Jean, are you sure that the upload completed successfully? I cannot find this file among your uploads (see here: Special:Contributions/Jean.Smolders). Please check and write me back, ok? —Carlos Email.gif 17:13, 30 October 2014 (UTC)
Hi Carlos, sorry for the delay, I was not home.

I retried to upload the missing files now: Gabr-omn.mid, Bian-ben.pdf and Bian-ben.mid. I think the uploads were Ok because I can see them in the appertaining list. I am not sure at this point if I have to fill out the "Add Works" forms again? Thanks again and best regards Jean

Hi Jean, now I could locate the files, thanks. Here is Bianciardi's Benedictus es Domine. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 04:36, 2 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi Carlos, thanks for your help again! Best regards, Jean

AddNewWork does not work for me

Hi Carlos, I uploaded a polish anthem: Gaude Mater Polonia as Gorc-Gau.pdf. It shows up in the contributions list. When I now go to the Composers Page (which already exists) and try AddNewWork, fill out the fields and specify either the fileneneme only, or the complete URL and then press the bottom button I only obtain a blank browser window. I am sorry I tried this several times (it says on the site that one shuold not do this). Can you help me once again? Thanks so much. Best regards Jean

Hi Jean, I don't know why the AddNewWork didn't work for you, maybe it's related to the web browser you were using. None of your attempts was saved, so don't worry about having tried multiple times. Maybe this happened for good, because according to the sources checked by me some time ago, this arrangement is not by Gorczycki, but by Klonowski. I've renamed your file to File:Klonowski - Gaude.pdf and added your edition to Gaude Mater Polonia (Teofil Klonowski). If you think that it was done by mistake, please let me know. If you agree with the attribution of the arrangement to Klonowski, please upload a new version with the corrected composer name. Regards, —Carlos Email.gif 22:19, 2 December 2014 (UTC)
Hi Carlos, I engraved this from a handwritten score that we used in our choir and that said Gorczycki (1666-1734). Now I searched for Klonowski and found a score attributed to Klonowski (1805-1876) that is exactly the same as mine. So I am puzzled, probably my version is an arrangement by Klonowski. I am easy to attribute this to Klonowski, but I have a question: look here: http://www.musikverlag-engelhart.de/FTP/1037.pdf : my version looks like a one to one copy of this, so I probably should withdraw this for copy right reasons, or is the copy right extinguished since klonowski died 1876?
Thanks for your help and best regards!

Hi Jean, Max has kindly researched this for us and found what follows:
  • Through Worldcat I located an edition of "Gaude Mater Polonia" arranged by Klonowski and copyrighted in 1938 in the US. Apparently copyright was not renewed in 1966, so this work should be definitely public domain in the US.
Worldcat also reports the edition mentioned by Jean Smolders in his talk page. Apparently it was published in 1994, therefore such specific edition (not the work) is copyrighted in most countries. However, I don't think that Jean Smolders' edition is "a one to one copy" of that edition: the typesetting is definitely different (different number of bars per system, different dynamics and dynamics markings, etc.). Notes are probably the same, however this is totally normal for different editions of the same work. The handwritten score that Jean Smolders used as a source may have been derived from any other public domain editions, so I don't think that anybody can claim any copyright on Jean Smolders' edition. Max

Thank you Max and Carlos for your help. I am releived to hear that. So I now uploaded the piece with the corrected composer name.
Best regards, Jean

Thanks Carlos!

Hi Carlos, thanks so much for positioning "O süße Liebe".

Best regards Jean

You're welcome! Thank you too, for this new edition. :) —Carlos (talk) Email.gif 00:07, 24 October 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, last upload of Gomes_Ave_Maris_stella_8s.capx apparently failed? Uploaded Gomes_Ave_maris_stella_8s.capx again, because current version is not the last one that I uploaded. Same holds for ...xml, ...pdf and ...mid.

The today's versions have indeed replaced the old versions. See, for example, here. Just delete old versions on your computer, or new versions will not be reloaded (because they have the same name). Claude (talk) 21:33, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Comment 17 Sep 2021

Hi Claude. Thanks for your help. I am sorry, I do not understand what to do. There are no old versions on my (at my home) computer. The only files with these names on my disk drive are the versions I uploaded yesterday (16.Sep). Are the old files on the CPDL computer(s)? Could you please tell me again what exactly I should do? I do not know how to delete Files from the History Version Lists on the CPDL Website. You can possibly delete the old files at CPDL, but even so, can you still tell me what I am doing do wrong?
And another question (sorry, I am a Wiki-analphabète (illiterate.) How can I change the Website language on my computer when I am logged in? My location is germany and I would like to work on the site in English, because many items in the help files are given in English and then I have difficulties in finding them. For Instance help says: go to "tools". That link does not exist on my screen (is says "Werkzeuge") This one is easy but for many entries I cannot find the German / English equivalents, as the site on my computer is a mixture of Germn and English. Thanks for your help!
Jean
Hi, Jean. Each file on the site has its own history page, which you can reach clicking on the white icon, immediately on the right of each of (your) file's icons. Have you clicked on the PDF one, as I suggested? Don't you see two lines, one for the old version and, above, one for the new version? I can swear that users, when they click on your PDF file icon, always see the most recent version (except if they have recently dowloaded the old one).
About languages, only a few pages are translated in local language. Users generally want to see pages translated in local language. But if you see, for example "https://www.cpdl.org/wiki/index.php/Main_Page/de", you could be able to replace 'de' by 'en', at the end of the address bar. Claude (talk) 16:07, 17 September 2021 (UTC)
Hi, Claude. By magic hand (yours?) everything has settled. The newest version are on the website and the white icons have disappeared. I did not have to take any action. Can it be that there is a substantial delay between my uploading and the update on the site?. Anyway, thanks again for your help. Regards, Jean

To James Gibb:

In measure 29 the textunderlay "fai-ben_" should read "fal-ben_" ?

(I think it means something like "pale-yellow" in English ("fahl-gelb" in German?)

Cantate Domino a 4 (Hans Leo Hassler)

Apparently, you did not upload a pdf score file for your edition of Cantate Domino a 4 (Hans Leo Hassler). Could you please do this? Also, the file extensions (eg. ".pdf" and ".capx") are part of the file name and must be included when you post them. Thlanks so much! -- Charlestalk Giffen 15:25, 30 October 2023 (UTC)

Hi Charles, thanks for your help! I just tried again to upload "Hassler_Cantate_Domino.pdf" Is there a problem with the underscores replacing the blanks in my files?

Lobe den Herren (Hugo Distler)

Hi Charles, I also reloaded "Lobe den Herren" by Hugo Distler. There was a problem with the file names, that were the same as Gerd Eichler's (2013). I therefore renamed my files and uploaded them again. I also deleted the corrupt entry from the file list page. Hope it all worked ourt correctly and I did not ruin anything. Thanks again Jean 2023-10-30 17:41
